The Malaysian Thanavaisya Association (MTA) is a non-profit, charitable, non-political, community-based organization that was founded in 1957 to foster cohesive understanding and cooperation among the Thanavaisya community in Malaysia.

Since its inception, the organization has been able to uphold its objectives through its wide spectrum of activities. Our initiatives recognize the long-standing generational growth of the Thanavaisya community and serve to foster cross-cultural appreciation and understanding within Malaysia’s diverse society.

The Thanavaisya Legacy

The Thanavaisya community has a rich and storied history in Malaysia, dating back to the mid-19th century. From humble beginnings as traders and merchants, the community has grown to become an integral part of Malaysia’s multicultural fabric.

1850s
Early Migration

The first Thanavaisya traders and merchants began arriving in Malaya (now Malaysia), establishing trade routes and small businesses.

Community Formation

Early community organizations began forming as the Thanavaisya population grew in the Straits Settlements.
